I think mums might be the least acknowledged group of superheroes on the planet. They walk among us without flashy costumes or theme music playing, but constantly perform heroic deeds without even realising and without applause. This book, from Timothy Knapman and Joe Berger, is an ode to all those Superhero Mums masquerading as regular human beings.
This super book celebrates a can-do mother and daughter team where no tangle is too tough and no load too heavy! It brilliantly captures all the things your average mum does each day with such ease that it’s as though she has superpowers.
I chuckled to myself as I saw a lot of me in Superhero Mum – the power to find missing teddies, the spare pants tumbling out of my oversized handbag. But most of all, I could empathise with her need for just a bit more sleep!
The rhyming text and vibrant illustrations lend the story a sense of speed and pace as the dynamic duo zoom through their day.
This would make the perfect gift for a mother or a child, but remember – a book is for life, not just for Mother’s Day! (Superhero Dad is also available.)
UPDATE: following customer demand, this title has been reissued as a board book and now also comes in a ‘Superhero Mum and Son’ flavour just in time for Morhers’ Day 2019. The illustrations and plot are exactly the same except the main character is now also available as a boy.
Right, I’m off to recharge my powers: coffee to the rescue!
