I was so pleased to see a sequel to the original Greenwild adventure. I loved the lush setting of this world full of green magic and plants sprouting delicious treats. This time, readers are whisked away beneath the waves as Daisy and her friends seek out her kidnapped mother.

“Daisy Thistledown is on a mission. She might have defeated a terrible enemy, but her journey to find her kidnapped mother is just beginning. After smuggling aboard a long-awaited expedition to the heart of the
Amazon, Daisy and her friends soon find themselves in danger on the high seas, pursued across the waves by Grim Reapers. Their only hope: to find the legendary Iffenwild, a mysterious city hidden beyond the sea and lost to time.
But a strange, wild magic is stirring beneath the waves. It will take all of Daisy’s courage and determination – and the trust of a new friend – if she is to discover the truth that haunts Iffenwild, and save the magical world before it’s too late.”
The second instalment in the Greenwild series was every bit as magical as the first. I was delighted to rediscover some forgotten features of the wonderful world cleverly built by author Pari Thomson and thrilled to dive into the blue world of Marindeep. The descriptions of the gleaming pearlescent buildings and fantastical plants were so vivid I could almost imagine myself navigating one of the canals.
The Grim Reapers were on truly terrifying form as they relentlessly hunted down the mysterious Max. I enjoyed learning more about Max who is taking a central role in this new chapter. It was also interesting to see the other characters hone and develop their skills. Being a whisperer sounds like brilliant fun!
As I would expect, there were also strong themes of conservation and collective responsibility as the gang see firsthand the coral bleaching of the reef surrounding Iffenwild and begin to understand why the community have all but sealed themselves off from the outside world.
A wonder of a book, sparkling with magic and high adventure!
Jo.
