On the first day of the new year, the mailman brings a surprise – a penguin!

At first, everyone is quite excited at the prospect of having a pet penguin to look after.  But then, the next day, another arrives, and another, and another…until, by the end of the week, they have seven penguins!

Day after day, the penguins keep coming.  By mid-April, the family have 100 penguins living in their home.  This causes them all kinds of problems – space-wise and financially.

What are they going to do?!  Penguin pandemonium has taken over their lives!

This book is packed full of humour and mathematical opportunities (as well as penguins!)

I love the fact that this is a book which can be enjoyed by children of all ages, on different levels.  Younger children will find the idea of having 365 penguins living in someone’s house hilarious, and will enjoy the unexpected twist at the end.  Older children would also enjoy the humour and solving the various mathematical challenges faced by the family.

I can’t wait to share this book with my class next term – they’re going to love it!
