I was very excited when I discovered that Macmillan’s Children’s Books were publishing a new hardback edition of this book. I have very fond memories of listening to this on story cassette when I was little.

My cat, Jessie, curling up with a good book.
Gobbolino was born in the darkness of a witch’s cave but was miserable with his job of being a witch’s cat.
Although he can blow sparks out of his whiskers and swim like an eel, all Gobbolino longs for is the life of a simple kitchen cat.
When the opportunity arises, Gobbolino sets out to make a new life for himself where he can catch mice by day and curl up beside a warm fire in the evening. But running away from your past isn’t easy, as Gobbolino is about to discover.
It’s hard to believe that this classic children’s story was first published in 1942. The story of the little cat looking for a forever home was written as his author had to spend hours and hours sheltering under her staircase with her two sons.
A heart-warming tale which children will continue to enjoy for many more years to come. Purrfect!
Library Girl.
It is very nice book to read.
