Dinosaurs, Sharks and Woodland Creatures – Oh my! First non-fiction from DK Books.

Three brilliant choices for young fact fans.  Non-fiction books can be the perfect way into reading for curious minds and reluctant readers.

Our first selection is ‘Pick me up! Dinosaur.’  Part of a brilliant new series of books which encourage readers to take them and play.

This one imagines what a baby diplodocus might have gotten up to with his dino friends (warning – probably not historically accurate!)

It features a fun, rhyming story, lots of talking points and handy pronunciation guides for those tricky dinosaur names.

‘Sharks and Other Sea Creatures’ is part of DK’s Practical Facts series.  I love that the book contains a mixture of clearly presented information, photos and brilliant craft activities.

Within the pages you will travel to the darkest depths of the ocean, caper with clownfish through coral reefs and discover some of the sea’s biggest eaters.

Another book from the Practical Facts series is, ‘Forest Life and Woodland Creatures.’ Again, this book is perfect for young non-fiction fans, featuring colourful photos and illustrations, clear scientific explanations and plenty of crafty activities for rainy spring days.

My favourite spread is the ‘Into the Night’ section where you can learn all about creatures who hunt by night and some of the clever techniques they use.  Although the sections about the life cycle of an oak tree and ‘The Clean-up Crew’ are also fascinating.

Enjoy yourselves, fact-hunters!
