It started with an “Oops!”…

…and so begins the mystery of ‘The Elephant in the Room.’

Father Giant’s favourite elephant has been smashed into little pieces and he wants to know who’s to blame so he can banish them from the house, but no one seems keen to confess.  After some serious investigating, and a lot of passing the buck, the unlikely culprit is revealed and a solution suggested.

Initially, my eye was caught by the somewhat psychadelic  sixties-style front cover and illustrations with pops of neon orange. I was then further intrigued when I read the mysterious and enticing opening line.

The rhyming text made it a pleasure to read aloud and the surreal turn of events taken as the excuses poured in kept me guessing to the very end.  An ending, I’m glad to say, which wasn’t nearly as dark as I’d feared!

This is the first collaboration with a publisher for author James Thorp and illustrator Angus Mackinnon, follow two critically-acclaimed self-published picture books. They’ve a second book published for release next year; I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves!
