Blog tour: ‘The Doll Twin,’ by Janine Beacham, cover by Nathan Collins.

There is an ever-increasing selection of delightfully creepy reads for middle grade readers. ‘The Doll Twin’ taps right into my horror weak spot – animated dolls (this is as a result of watching a certain film featuring a certain murderous doll when I was much too young!) Thankfully, this new title is age-appropriate and much less likely to induce nightmares.

“Una Wexford is thrilled to be adopted after the great war, but an eerie secret lurks in her new home – a life sized animated copy of herself. Is ‘Ani’ as innocent as she seems or does she want to steal Una’s new family – and her life?”

‘The Doll Twin’ is an excellent introduction to the gothic horror genre for tween readers. All the classic hallmarks are there: an orphan, a stormy sea swept setting, an aging house with a secret…

And so, as the story progresses, the tension slowly ratchets up gear after gear. With a creepy carousel in the basement of Una’s new parents’ house, to strange scraping noises from the forbidden upper levels, Beacham masterfully draws readers in and takes them on one heck of a ride as Una strives to solve the many mystery the house holds.

A brilliant read for anyone aged 10+ who likes to be scared!
