‘Dylan the Doctor,’ by Guy Parker-Rees.

I’m very happy to be part of the blog tour for this eye-catching book.  It’s the first in a series of stories about Dylan – a dog who loves playing and wants everyone to join in with him too.

In this adventure, Dylan is learning what it’s like to be a doctor.

Whilst pondering what to do, Dylan decides it’s ‘Making-Everyone-Better day’ and rushes off to find his doctor’s kit.

Luckily (for Dylan), all his friends seem to be ill or have had some kind of accident. Dylan is delighted to rush to their aid and use all the equipment in his kit.

But as more and more of his friends  need looking after, is Dylan taking on too much?

Packed full of colourful illustrations, this lovely story is perfect for teaching young children about the important job doctors do.

I like the use of labelled diagrams to build vocabulary and the little ladybird who pops up on the pages to ask the reader questions and encourage interaction with the story.

I can imagine lots of children listening to this story then running off excitedly to play doctors themselves.

Watch out for the second Dylan adventure coming soon – ‘Dylan the Shopkeeper.’
