Today I’m sharing an absolutely fascinating information book packed with some of the most amazing objects and places you’ve ever seen! It’s the second in the Our Amazing World Series. My review of the first, Amazing Islands, can be found HERE.

‘Explore history, culture, geology and the environment through treasures ancient and modern! Discover 100+ of the world’s most extraordinary man-made and natural treasures, objects and places.
Giant gemstones, precious artworks, architectural wonders, intriguing ruins, moon rocks and more! Treasures both natural and man-made make an appearance in a tour which stretches across thousands of years and all around the globe. Discover sunken wrecks loaded with pirate gold, the abandoned tombs of the world s most powerful rulers and even meteorites treasures from outer space!
A central foldout map reveals the locations of all the treasures featured in the book, while Blue Peter award-winning author David Long also addresses contemporary topics such as our threatened natural wonders and the ownership of cultural treasures.’

What I really enjoyed about this book was that it looked at ‘treasures’ in all their may guises – personal, natural, golden and stolen to name but a few. This made for a varied and interesting read and sustained my attention from page to page. My youngest son was also fascinated by this book and requested that I leave it in his bedroom so he could read it when he woke up!
All the double page spreads are fully-illustrated making the book as much a feast for the eyes as for the brain. The information about most treasures was presented in a single paragraph, meaning that the reader won’t become overwhelmed by dense text. Some subjects (such as The Forbidden City on China) warranted a full spread to themselves.
An absolutely fascinating read for anyone aged 7+ with an interest in the world around them.
