Blog tour: ‘Leaving the House,’ by Sally Nicholls, illustrated by Ellie Snowdon.

Today I’m sharing the first title in a brand new series about the everyday adventures of the O’Hare family. ‘Leaving the House’ will certainly ring true for anyone who has ever tried to leave the house with young children in tow!

“Little bunny brothers Jackson and Harley love to create chaos and fun in the mornings, from superhero playtimes and breakfast mishaps, to wardrobe dilemmas and toothpaste trouble . . . and not a lot of listening to Mum and Dad. No wonder they are always late to leave the house! Will today be any different?

Get ready to laugh, smile, and maybe even recognise a bit of your own morning routine.”

As I was reading, I found myself chuckling as Mum and Dad struggled to get everyone out of the house on time. Despite deploying many tried and tested parenting techniques, they still couldn’t quite manage it. Kudos to Mum though for slipping in a reference to subatomic particles over breakfast!

The antics of brothers Jackson and Harley reminded me of my two boys when they were little – not much has changed now they are teenagers. They may be able to get their own shoes on but locating them in the first place or getting out of bed on time is still a trial.

Readers are going to love this humorous and affectionate nod to family life. ‘Doing the Shopping’ is the O’Hares next adventure, due to be published in 2027.

Jo.
