Jim is back in another death-defying (literally) adventure that will make you laugh your socks off! Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!
Jim Wimple has just about come to terms with the fact that his father is, in fact, the Grim Reaper and not an accountant as he had previously believed. To help him get his head around the idea, Jim has started a brand new project book – ‘What is the Meaning of Death?’ in which he’s collecting together all the things he knows about the business of death.
The problems begin when Jim’s dad refuses to answer any of his questions so Jim has to resort to sneaking into the forbidden office. It’s there that he sees a long list of names streaming out of a strange box on the wall. And on that list is the name ‘Mrs. Sally Maggot,’ who just happens to be the grandmother of his best friend, Will Maggot. Surely that can’t be good news? Can it?! Granny Maggot may be mean, grumpy and smelly but that doesn’t mean she deserves to die.
This sequel is hilarious and touching in equal measures. Granny Maggot is the old lady I hope to grow up to be; she does and says exactly what she likes and gets to eat as much Battenberg cake as she wants to. Her adventures with Jim and Will are packed full of the kind of madcap escapades you’ve come to expect from the Jim Reaper series but also with real warmth and love.
Will and his sister’s love and concern for their grandma shine through throughout all the ‘acts of randomness’ which take place as they try to dodge death himself. It was lovely to see family relationships portrayed in this way.
I would recommend this book to anyone who’s a fan of spooks, thrills and laughs. Happy reading!
