A hidden world of crayfish, turtles and bullfrogs. Whirligig beetles, caddisdly larva and beavers.  Each creature playing a vital role in maintaining a delicate balance.

At the back of the book there’s a great section of author’s notes explaining how wetland ecosystems work and how the plants and animals work together to keep each other alive. There’s also an ‘About the animals’ section giving more information about each of the creatures mentioned in the story.

Beautifully illustrated and poetically written, a lovely introduction to food chains and ecosystems for young readers .

Library Girl.
