‘Millie’s Missing Yawn,’ by You Jung Byun.

We always enjoy testing out new bedtime reads, particularly one which comes with a ‘100% guaranteed to make you yawn’ bedtime promise.  Book Boy and I cosied up in front of the fan to test out the sleepy powers of this story.

Millie’s all snuggled up in bed ready to go to sleep when she realises something isn’t quite right.  She should be feeling sleepy but she isn’t. Where’s her yawn gone?  Not one to rest on her laurels, Millie sets off on a round-the-world quest to find her missing yawn, with faithful teddy, Milo, by her side.

Her journey takes her to some of the most famous sights in the world – from the Statue of Liberty to the Sphinx in Egypt but she still can’t find her yawn. Back home in bed, thinking about all the new friends she’s made, Millie suddenly starts to feel something brewing deep inside her, and her eyelids getting heavy, could it be that she’s found her yawn?

Book Boy and I have lots of fun talking about all the places Millie visited and guessing where she might go next.  I am also very pleased to report that the story had, as guaranteed, a 100% yawn success rate.  Reading this story is like trying to eat a jam doughnut without licking your lips – pointless and impossible!
