Today I’m helping The Federation Of Children’s Book Groups (FCBG) celebrate National Non-Fiction November (#NNFN) with two fantastic titles from Laurence King Publishing.  Both very different, but both will help you travel around the globe without leaving your house!

‘Around the World With the Ingreedies: A Taste Adventure’ by Zoë Bather & Joe Sharpe, illustrated by Chris Dickason.

This cookery book with a difference will take you on a whirlwind tour of foods enjoyed around the world. Firm believers that learning about the history and culture of food will inspire children to try something new, the creators of this title have written a recipe book full of new ideas to try at home as a family.

I read this with my sons because we need to find some new meal ideas which will expand their palettes and prevent me cooking the same few meals on rotation.  There was loads to explore as we travelled around the culinary world and our tummies we rumbling by the end of it!

Book Boy decided that he wanted make Chef’s Moroccan Chicken Stew.  Here’s how it went:

The recipe was easy to follow, with clear instructions and colour photographs to help. Book Boy’s efforts rewarded us all with a delicious dinner and an expanded knowledge of world cuisine.  Next on the menu are Mexican-style spicy street wraps. A must-have purchase for any family with fussy-eaters or keen chefs.

‘Elephants on Tour: A Search & Find Journey Around the World’ by Guillaume Cornet.

This book is packed full of exquisitely detailed illustrations of some of the world’s most famous cities: Hong Kong, Sydney, Madagascar and many more feature within.

Young explorers have plenty to search for as they travel the globe with five elephant friends set on adventure.  In each location, readers have to find all of the elephants and their prized possessions.  At the same time, they’ll learn facts about each new place and will also have to contend with extra spotting requests from their new elephant friends.

Book Boy Jr. was the first to dive into this title, delighting in finding each of the elephants as they hung out in Sydney.  He was totally absorbed in the illustrations and loved spotting not just the elephants, but hundreds of other little details too.  A great way to introduce young readers to some of the world’s greatest cities and sights.
