I’m always on the lookout for new children’s magazines: for my own children, for school or to give as gift subscriptions to family and friends. I leapt at the chance to receive a copy of the quarterly ‘Dot’ magazine – it’s so beautifully designed and produced!
Volume 18 is ‘The Birds Issue’ and provided some welcome relief for Book Boy Jr. and myself in our first week of lockdown. Although aimed at preschoolers, we both admired the birds on the front cover and enjoyed discussing what shapes they were made of.
Inside, there was a bird-spotting guide (garden, woodland and tropical) where #BookBoyJr was interested to spot the Nightingale and immediately drew parallels with Florence Nightingale’s name. He also laughed at the comic strips within and enjoyed discussing which shops he’d most like to visit on the street (the cake shop, obviously!)
With colouring pages, mazes and some crafty makes, there’s loads in here to dip into and entertain little ones with. It will also provide lots of opportunities for conversations around local wildlife, shapes counting. You can order your copy HERE.
