I’m always so pleased to be able to share with you a beautiful picture book for the diverse publisher, Tiny Owl. Their books promote diversity not only through their themes and content, but also the wonderful collection of authors and illustrators they work with.
I was recently asked to produce a video of myself reading one of their stories for Tiny Owl’s new YouTube channel: Fly With Tiny Owl. I chose to share ‘There’s Room for Everyone’ – a timely tale about kindness and equality.
The child narrating this story wonders at the fact that humans always seem to be fighting for space in one way or another – on buses, in offices, for land – when there’s room for all the stars to be in the sky and for elephants and giraffes to live peacefully together. Surely, he thinks, there could be space for everyone if only people were kinder.
This story was borne from the frustration Anahita experienced when watching the news and seeing humans yet again fighting over a small patch of planet Earth. If there was room for her sandwich on the overcrowded coffee table, there must be room on the planet for everyone to live together in harmony! Anahita rushed to get the story idea down and was back again before the news had finished!
A very simple but impactful story that will get young readers thinking about their place in the world and about how there’s enough room for us all – humans and animals – without having to fight over space.
