‘Timelines From Black History: Leaders, Legends, Legacies,’ with foreword by Mireille Harper.

You can always rely of DK for engaging, good quality information books packed with diagrams, timelines and photographs so I was pleased to see that they have produced which looks exclusively at timelines from the perspective of Black history. It is compiled from updated material from their previous timeline books along with new content to reflect the identities, cultures, contributions of Black and mixed-heritage people from around the world.

This book contains thirty fascinating visual timelines exploring key areas of Black history: from the start of the entire human story in Africa, through slavery, the US civil rights movement, to the career of Serena Williams.

It’s also packed with biographies of inspirational changemakers with well-known historical figures such as: Mary Seacole, Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks taking their places alongside others like: Nzinga Mbandi, Zora Neale Hurston and Wangari Maathai. I also loved that included young activists such as Mari Copeny and Marley Dias to inspire readers to stand up for causes they believe in.

Stacked with facts and packed with illustrations, there will be something new for every reader to discover inside this excellent book.

Library Girl.
