Alma Classics have sent me this lovely re-illustrated version of a childhood classic – The Railway Children.
After the unexpected disappearance of their father, Bobbie, Phyllis and Peter have to leave their comfortable lives in London to move to a small cottage in the countryside with their mother.
As mother struggles to make ends meet by writing stories, the children occupy themselves by befriending the local railway poster who teaches them how to run a railway station. Their love of the trains leads them to have many adventures, including a quest to discover the secret of their father’s disappearance.
The edition is different to the others as it has lots of extra features at the end. Test your knowledge of the story with a quick quiz, discover other stories which feature trains and learn more about the author and the story’s characters.
