Blog tour: ‘Dream Team: A Case of the Jitters,’ by Tom Percival.

I’m loving this series of chapter books by Tom Percival which explore emotions and how to manage them. The Dream Team work together to turn nightmares into incredible adventures and they’re back for their second mission. You can find my review of the first title HERE.

In this adventure, Erika’s just having a normal day at school when she receives a top secret communication from the Dream Team asking for her help. The team have a particularly tricky case to crack and need Erika’s help.

Their target is a girl called Chanda. Her dreams appear to be being taken over by dark shadows and slithering horned creatures. Chanda’s nights are now haunted with dreams of being picked on and bullied. It soon becomes clear that a jitter is to blame – a powerful projection of all the very worst things a person thinks about themselves – and it’s intent on taking over Chanda’s waking hours too!

Can the Dream Team help Chanda take back control of her dreams and her life?

This highly-illustrated adventure would be perfect for readers aged seven and up. I love how it cleverly combines action, fearsome beasts and an exploration of your emotions and how to master them. Books like this are so important because they allow children to explore uncomfortable feelings within the safe environment of a story, and can open up important discussions with the adults around them.

I think lots of readers will be able to identify with Chanda’s feelings of worthlessness and not being good enough. It was brilliant to be able to see Chanda slowly become more confident – at first she found it so difficult to think of something nice to say about herself but this gradually began to change as she found her inner awesomeness!

Action-packed and inspiring – I’m glad I managed to read this one before #BookBoyJr snaffled it away for his private collection!
