Christmas Advent – Day 17 ‘A Donkey Called Mistletoe,’ by Helen Peters, illustrated by Ellie Snowdon.

I love this series of chapter books aimed at readers aged 7+ Animal stories are perennially popular so it’s fantastic to have such a high-quality series to recommend. And now there’s a Christmassy addition!

Jasmine has always planned to build an animal sanctuary on the family’s farm when she is older and has already rescued lots of animals.

When she learns that Mr Hobson has become too old to care for his donkey, Mistletoe, and will have to send him away, she’s determined that Mistletoe should come and stay on Oak Tree Farm and make friends with the other animals. The only problem is that her parents have banned her from having any more pets.

As ever, Jasmine has a plan. But will it be good enough to persuade her parents to give her a very unusual Christmas present?

This festive instalment in this lovely farmyard series will leave readers with a warm, Christmassy glow inside – but hopefully not wanting a pet donkey!
