Christmas Advent – Day 22 ‘Magnificent Mabel and the Christmas Elf,’ by Ruth Quayle, illustrated by Julia Christians.

The brilliantly magnificent Mabel is back in a new title with a festive twist. It features three chucklesome short stories which would be perfect for readers who are developing in confidence.

Life often doesn’t seem for to Mabel Chase. School is always so sameish, no-one wants to let her look after her baby cousin, and her very naughty Christmas Elf seems intent on getting her into LOTS of trouble! But that doesn’t really matter because Mabel knows that she’s truly magnificent.

I love this series! Anyone one lucky enough to have encountered a five-ish year old will instantly recognise them in Mabel – the sense of injustice, the slightly twisted sense of right and wrong, and an impatience to just get out there and live life! But all done with the best intentions and the biggest heart.

The large print, generous illustrations and the hilarious but relatable storylines will have emerging readers laughing out loud as they go. Perfect for anyone aged 5+

Library Girl.
